DHARM PARKASH AHLUWALIA

Respected businessman, social worker and sportsman, Dharm Parkash Ahluwalia, passed away peacefully on 18 February, 2022 in Nairobi.

Dharm, who was a son of the late Bir Singh and Lilawati Ahluwalia, was born in Nairobi in 1937.  An admired businessman, he was a Director of Auto Electric Services Limited, a prominent spare parts company in Nairobi.

Dharm lived a life of service, co-founding the Kenya Red Cross with the late Vimal Arya and supporting numerous charities. He served as Chair of both the Arya Samaj Nairobi and Arya Pratinidhi Sabha East Africa, was a member of Kenya’s Anti-Corruption Body, worked with the National Aids Control Council, and served on the Hindu Council. Dharm assisted post-graduate students at the University of Nairobi with their theses, and was a prolific sportsman who played field hockey and badminton for Kenya, served as Vice Chair of the Kenya Table Tennis Association and Chair of the Aryan Club, reviving the Arya Samaj’s youth movement.

Dharm is survived by his wife, Romila Parkash, daughter, Dr. Kavita P.Ahluwalia, son, Shiv Parkash Ahluwalia, son-in-law Vivek Sawhney, daughter-in-law Puneet Ahluwalia, and granddaughter Siya Sawhney. He was the brother of the late Gian, Prem and Prakash Ahluwalia, the late Nirmala Singh,Vimla Walia, the late Kamla Sikand, the late Urmila Khosla and Pramila Charlwood. Beloved uncle to numerous nieces and nephews.

He is remembered for his love of sport, generous spirit, sense of duty, work ethic and unwavering loyalty to his family and friends.

Funeral service will be held on Monday, February 21, 2022 at 11am at Arya Samaj Nairobi followed by the Cremation at 12.30 pm at Hindu Shamshan Bhoomi.

Say not in grief he is no more, but in thankfulness that he was.
