REV. FR. BONIFACE (BONAVENTURE) OJAKA OSB

Rt. Rev. Abbot John Baptist OSB and the monks of prince of peace Benedictine abbey Tigoni, regret to announce the demise of their brother Rev. Fr. Boniface (Bonaventure) Ojaka OSB which occurred at St. Mary’s Hospital Tororo on 10th, October, 2021 after a long illness.

Son of mzee Isidore Othieno and mama Scholastica Anyango both of Naguria B. Nyangole Sub-county in Tororo, Uganda. The brothers and sisters are Awino Jane Frances, Abbo Anna, Akongo Veronica, Ochieng Stephen, Among Jane Frances, Julius Emeje, Sunday Johnson and Nyapendi Rose in that order – eldest to youngest.

Fr. Boniface joined the Benedictine Fathers of Nairobi in the year 1979 and took his first monastic vows on 13th, June, 1981. He was ordained a priest on 20th, November, 1988. Thereafter, he was assigned to assist at Kerio Valley, later worked in Nanyuki Bible on the ground before being appointed the Parish priest of St. Benedict’s Ruaraka Parish. He later on went for further studies in Theology at St. John’s University, U.S.A. Fr. Boniface never forgot his roots in Uganda and so he founded St Benedict’s High school in Tororo to help in educating the underprivileged students from the locality and beyond. He also assisted Christ the King monastery, Tororo as the sub-prior for a period of two years. Fr. worked as the director of St. Benedict’s High school until his demise. In the recent past, he was also assisting with the formation of young brothers in the abbey.
