PROF. JOHN ANGORO FESTUS OBIRI (JAFO)

Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) regrets to announce the sudden death of Prof. John Angoro Festus Obiri (JAFO).

He was married to Noelle Shijenje of USAID—KIWASH based in Siaya, Kenya.Together, they were blessed with two children: Terrence Vuyanzi Obiri, a student at Maseno University; and Chris Musa Obiri, a student at Kapsabet Boys’. Prof. Obiri was a son to the late ex councilor Mzee Festus Malova Obiri and Mama Teresa Malova, a retired teacher. He was a step son to Mama Lorna Kavulani, a retired teacher. He was a brother to the late Paul Obiri, Margaret Mutiso (RVIST), Anne Vuhunji Madegwa (Principal Motagara Girls), Philemone Hans Obiri (Farmer), Peter Obiri (USA), David Kivuli (Farmer), Steve Kabagi (USA), Fred Alunga (Nairobi), Tom Jumba (Mombasa), Doreen Angehi (Nairobi), Heldah Andeso.

Prof. Obiri was an Associate Professor of Resource Management (Environmental Studies) in the department of Disaster Management and Sustainable Development, School of Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance. Until his death, he was the Director, Directorate of Postgraduate Studies, (MMUST).

The body of the late Professor will leave Kakamega County Referral Hospital Mortuary on Friday 5th February, 2021 for a brief memorial service at the MMUST grounds and later at his Applegate Estate home in Kakamega town, Lurambi, Sichirayi. The Burial will take place on Saturday 6th February, 2021 at his Bidii Farm, Bidii Village, Kitale Town, Kenya.
